Our after-school/afternoon programs are characterized by a thoughtful blend of child-led exploration with elements of naturalist studies, nature connection routines, earth skills, and imaginative play. We have programs available for 5 to 12 year olds, with different age groupings to choose from and staggered drop-off/pick-up times. We meet at various locations along the Putah Creek Riparian Reserve (PCRR) and the South Fork Preserve (SFP) in Davis, and we have a session in Orangevale/Folsom and Sacramento (William B Pond/River Bend Park) as well. Most kids come once a week, but you are welcome to register for as many sessions as you like.
Spring season is underway!
If you are interested in joining mid-season, please reach out to inquire.

*We’re trying something new: The Sacramento After-school class will have drop-off/pick-up points at William B Pond AND at River Bend Park, to be more accessible for families on both sides of the river. One Forest Mentor will greet children on the William B Pond side, and another Forest Mentor will greet children on the River Bend side. Both groups will then converge and spend their afternoon together. Children will be returned to the correct side for pick-up.
Reparations & Tuition Assistance
We have a few opportunities to offer tuition assistance for families with financial need (please contact us in advance to apply and receive the coupon code!).
We offer a discounted reparations rate of 40% off standard tuition to families identifying as Black and/or Indigenous to North America, regardless of financial need. You will find the reparations code in the session description on the registration site.
Please note that tuition assistance cannot be combined with the use of homeschool charter funds (but the reparations rate can).
Homeschool Charter Funds
If you are with a homeschool charter, you should be able to use their funds for all of our programs except Dragonfly Teen Naturalists*.
We are currently vendors with the following charters:
- Clarksville
- Compass
- Cottonwood
- Feather River
- Harvest Ridge
- Heritage Peak
- Horizon
- South Sutter
- Sutter Peak
- Visions in Education
If you are with a different charter school and would like to request that we become vendors with them, please get in touch!
In order to use charter funds, we require a $25 deposit when registering, which gets subtracted from the amount you request from your school. This deposit is retained as the cancelation fee should you cancel.
Each class has a coupon code that you can use to check out in the registration system without paying tuition beyond the $25 deposit. If you use this code, we will expect to receive a purchase order or service voucher within 2 weeks of your registration, and before the start of the program. (Fall Season is the only exception, as most charters are not yet open for funding requests at the time registration opens. In this case we expect to receive your purchase order or service voucher before the start of the program.)
The coupon codes for using charter funds are listed in the registration system under "view more details" for each class option. Sometimes they change from season to season so please always check there!
Using charter funds for Little Coyotes Forest Kinder is a more complicated matter, so please get in touch with us if you want to do this!
Once you have registered with the coupon code and paid the $25 deposit, just subtract $25 from the total tuition and request that from your charter school. If you are receiving a reparations-based rate, make sure to factor that in as well.
*For DTN, some charters will pay for it, though most won't, due to it being held on Saturdays and involving an overnight component. Please verify with your charter before registering, if your registration depends on it being funded by your school.
Cancelations & Refunds
Refund Policy for Seasonal Programs
If you cancel your registration within 4 weeks of the start of the season, you will be refunded in full, minus a $25 cancelation fee. If you cancel less than 4 but more than 2 weeks before the start of the season, you will be refunded 50% of the tuition, minus the $25 cancelation fee. There will be no refunds for cancelations starting 2 weeks before the first day of the season.
For example: The Spring season begins on 3/30 in Davis. In order to receive a full refund your last day to cancel is Sunday, March 1st. If you cancel between Monday, March 2nd and Sunday, March 15th, you will receive a refund of 50% of the total tuition minus the $25 cancelation fee. If you cancel on or after Monday, March 16th, we will not be able to offer a refund.
Refund Policy for Summer Camp Weeks
For weekly summer camps, the same principle applies, but to your scheduled week, rather than to the start of the Summer Season: cancelations 4 or more weeks in advance of your scheduled week will result in a full refund, minus the $25 cancelation fee; 2-4 weeks in advance of your scheduled week will result in a 50% refund, minus the $25 cancelation fee; and less than 2 weeks will not be refundable.
For example: If your child is registered in Week 2 camp, beginning on Monday, June 22nd, the last day to cancel and receive a full refund will be Sunday, May 24th; you will be able to receive a 50% refund between Monday, May 25th and Sunday, June 7th. There will be no refunds after that point.
